Microsoft's involvement with open source stepped up again this week, as Microsoft and Red Hat announced a partnership. The partnership aims to provide Red Hat solutions natively on Azure, integrated enterprise support spanning hybrid environments, collaboration on .NET, and unified workload management across hybrid cloud deployments.

The Azure ecosystem also widened to include a mariaDB Enterprise Cluster, and a preview of 'Pivotal Cloud Foundry', while Cloud Foundry on Azure became generally available.

There's been a flurry of Azure SQL announcements: transactional Replication to Azure SQLelastic Database Transactions, InMemory OLTP and RealTime Operational Analytics are now in preview, and dynamic Data Masking is now generally available.

Azure DocumentDB continues its onward march, and is now available in South Central US.
